Touring the World at Home
05/24/2010
I had an accident last month which left me cripple for the rest of my life. After the accident, my life changed dramatically. I use to fly from coast to coast. My mother even teases me sometimes that if I am asked about my address, I must definite reply “airborne”. Although my mother meant it in good conscience, I know that my absence in almost family activities hurts her so much. However, I just can’t help but to travel. Not only because of work, but also because of the lifestyle I wish to have. It is when I travel that I feel more alive.
My doctor told me that I can still travel if I really want to. Well, I really want to, but I know that it will be very difficult. I don’t want to ruin my past impressions on travelling because of what I might experience now that I am disabled. This is the reason why I became a home buddy, and I started a new hobby. I started to become interested with World Current Events. Reading about both happy and tragic news about other countries gave a new perspective on how the world works. It made me appreciate governance and politics more. I realized that a country is not only defined by its culture, but also by its history.
