NFL agents represent not only the athletes but also the various broadcasters, coaches, team managers and the various team owners. Though it’s not necessary to have a law degree to become an agent but it helps. Lawyer and attorneys can also be hired to smoothen out the finer details in the contract. Above all the person should have more than a basic understanding of how the law operates and the way that the contracts are drafted.
The certified sports agents have more than law, they build on personal relationships. Since a client and his agent will send many hours in close proximity, they often become close allies. It’s important that the agent has an open relationship which is based on mutual trust and integrity. The agent also needs to understand the way that the sports industry operates and in particular the NFL.
There’s a saying in the industry that the sports agent gets paid when the player does. This is a fact. Without the players, the sports agents can never survive. Based on the salaries and the endorsements that the player makes, the agent can make their salaries and their commissions. It takes years of hard work to become an agent but the efforts are worth it.
